My name is Brittany. I'm 15 years old and this is my story. I don't exactly remember the date, but it was around August 12. I had some problems with my left ankle ever since 6th grade. Like, I would sprain it a lot. Well, I was at my best friend's house, Megan, and we were just goofing off. It was really late and pitch black outside. At the time my ankle was sprung but I was real tired of staying in the house. So I decided to run and just have fun. While I was running around I twisted my ankle all the way back. I didn't think to much of it I just knew it hurt like freak. I immediately fell and Megan got me some ice. It didn't look to bad at the time. Just swollen kinda bad. I stayed the night at her house and just laid around and watched movies. I for awhile I forgot about. When I woke up and tried to walk I had horrible pain. I looked at the side of my ankle and it was 3x it's size. Also black, yellow, blue, purple just about every color lol. When my mother came and picked me up I told her and we both kinda just thought it's a real bad sprain. I kept trying to put weight on it for about a week or 2 and finally just told my mom that the swelling isn't going down and it keeps hurting worse and worse. It was pretty hard to get into a orthopedic doctor. We got into one close to my house. When I went he wasn't much help at all. he said he wasn't sure what was wrong and wanted me to get an mri. Well...that didn't work out so well. I'm real afraid or mri's. They're so loud and I'm claustrophobic which doesn't help. I tried 3 different times to get in the machine and was just to scared. The doctor got me into an open mri i Knoxville. I was scared to death. I made them let me listen to it before i laid down, ha. While I was waiting the nurse there told me about her doctor. He was a podiatrists or orthopedic surgeon. He had done surgery on her and was great. So after the mri my mom made me an appointment. The day I went he was great! So nice and funny. He pressed around on my ankle and when he pressed one spot I jumped up and started balling. Right then he knew what was wrong. He took about 5 x-rays and said, "I was right, your ankle is broken." He should me the x-rays and was real talkative. then he said "Sweetie I'm afraid you'll have to have surgery." My face got real white. He gave me a splint and told me to stay off of it completely. I went to school and got homebound. About 4 weeks later I went in for surgery on September 30, 09. I was the only kid there. Surgery went great. He put a cast on and said we'll need to switch it every week. Gave me 2 types of pain pills. They worked too, lol. 2 weeks later he took stitches out and about 4 weeks later I was put in a walking air cats. I have been homebound for 4 months now. I just got off. My ankle still hurts really bad and I'm still in the air cast. The bad thing is when I had surgery he put a wire in my ankle and now....it's coming out or that is what my grandmother says[she's a physical therapists] I also did not have any therapy and now it's to late. They want me to redo surgery and have screws put in. Well...that is my story. I hope soon it will get better, but it's winter now so not many people can go outside anyway so I guess it doesn't matter.
