Obsessive

Does anyone else feel weird about how breaking a limb makes you obsessional? I think I came to this site because I was afraid of boring on about the same things on FB or Wordpress! I read an article by a psychiatrist who was making a case against people labelling themselves as 'schizophrenic'saying that no-one would refer to themselves as 'I am broken leg'.....well, much as I get her point regarding people with schizophrenia, she has obviously never broken her leg, as I definitely could say… Continue

Need an answer ASAP. Arm injury

On Saturday(11th May) i fell and injured my arm, it has swelled up really badly and it hurts to move, my fingers feel tingly...i went hospital on the sunday(12th), they took xrays and gave me a sling... The doctor told me its not a 'bad break' what did he mean? He also said to go to the fracture clinic on the 21st... Does this mean my arm is broken, if so why didnt i get a cast?

fighting to stay positive

Jan 2,2013. I slipped on some ice and broke my right wrist at work. May 6, 2013. I was ejected from a 6' ladder and shattered my right heel. Being a dad and the head of house hold. The depression is so hard!  72275_4379906300436_403286242_n.jpg…

Roller skating all the way home....

Hi, am a relatively new comer to the broken limb lifestyle and just stumbled(no pun intended!) upon this site today.

I broke my fibula, fractured the tibia and dislocated my ankle joint just over 4 weeks ago in an oafish backwards tumble from the side door of a vw camper...intending to go for a bike ride at the beginning of what was supposed to be a 5 month unpaid sabbatical from my job!!

3 weeks ago I had an operation to fix the leg with plates, pins and a screw and went home… Continue

8 weeks post op

Today I'm 8 weeks post op, dislocated and fractured tibia and fibula of my right ankle on the 27/02/13. I'm disappointed I didn't find this site until now. I had to wait 8 days following my fall for the swelling to subside enough to have the ankle plated and screwed. I was in a lot of pain pre and post op and continue to have considerable discomfort, which I only hope will subside with time. Personally I've found a frame to be better than crutches from a safety point of view' it has a "pouch"… Continue

cool rush of blood to my ankle

hello i broke the bottom of my tibia in 2004 then had the plate and screws removed in 2007 to releive the pain caused by some crooked screw heads at my ankle contacting the inside of my work boots. then in 2010 i broke my femur, the bone is healed fine but i still have a torn acl awaiting repair. my question today is about the cool sensation i get by my ankle flowing down into my foot i get when i stand up from being seated, it feels like a cool rush of blood. it happens quite consistantly…

Broken arm

I have broken my right arm 3 1/2 months ago. I did not have surgery. Therapy twice a week. Would it heal faster if I had had surgery. Still very painful.

The beginning

Nine years ago, exactly after the death of my father, I was in the back of my house trimming a trumpet vine with a brand new electric sheers.....plugged into my outside wall propped over my pool and over my fence into the back alley using one of those orange chords from Home Depot.  I accidentally cut through the cord with the trimmers, got down off my ladder and got some hand metal sheers to finish the last maybe 2 feet......not thinking, I failed to unplug the remaining live wire from my…

Advice

I'm wondering about experience of people who have had serious ankle breaks.  I'm in my 3rd week after surgery which included a palte and several screws but the ligaments/tendons are OK.  Thanks.

Sprained or Broken?

I have a strange question. I think I sprained my ankle yesterday. It hurt when it happened but doesn't hurt hardly at all just looks really bad. Is it possible that it could be broke some where but I just don't feel it? This hasn't ever happened to me before. I don't have insurance so I didn't go to the doctor, plus like i said it doesn't even hurt that bad.

Broken Thumb

More painful than I could have imagined (and I think more than when I broke my ankle).  But a step missed and carrying stuff up the stairs created this situaion.  Doctore indicated that I will need to be patient (given the thought that a conservative approach is being used) and let time heal it.  This is the second cast as first one was on for 3 weeks.  Will keep this blog up to date.

Broken Elbow!

I had a snowboarding accident yesterday and I broke my elbow. I was coming down the mountain and hit a jump and tried to do a 360 and didnt land it. I went to the ER and they said it was broken in 3 places and would require surgery. They put a long arm splint on and gave me a sling to wear and said surgery would be on saturday. After surgery they said I will have to wear a long arm cast for 6-8 weeks and then a brace after that. The pain is really bad but they gave me pain killers. Wish me a…

8 Months of AGONY

So i don't know if you remeber ny first post but it was a couple months ago. If you don't or are new here is a little backround. So i was playing in a regionals volleyball match. There are 160 courts in one big room, each one lined with big holed mesh.(like soccer nets) So i was running for the ball when my foot got tangled up in the mesh and i feel on my right wrist going for the ball. That was April, the first doctor thought i broke my scafoid, but i didn't after looking at one MRI and…

Walking the dog

Broke my ankle about 10 days ago, while walking my little boston terrier on a country trail.  Good ol' Wisconsin winters, I slipped on some ice and down I went!  It all happens so quickly.  I called my daughter and she came and got me and took me to the ER.  Since I was on a country trail, hundreds of yards away from the main road... I ended up having to army crawl on my stomach for what felt like an eternity.  Haven't had to have surgery, happily.  I fractured my left ankle in three…

Ice skating accident

On dec 21, some friends, my fiancé and I went to the local ice skating rink to have a good time. Unfortunately I am not very good at skating and after about an hour of fun I simply lost my balance. my left foot twisted outward and my body weight came down forward and landed on my leg. I looked down and seen my foot going in the opposite direction! I didn't know what to do so I just started screaming for my boyfriend. The ambulance came took me to kaiser. Once I got to the hospital is when I… Continue

Runner recovering from broken leg and injured knee

Back in October, I broke my femur, and tore my MCL and ACL in a dirtbike crash. My life was turned upside-down after that event. I moved out of my apartment because I couldn't take care of myself anymore. I had everything going for me; making money at a great job, getting my life back with my friends, and I wanted to get back to running half marathons. Also, I've been a competitive runner throughout high school and college, and then trained and competed on my own after that.

I was…

Crutches are my enemy

Ok so my story. I was walking out to my car at work to go on lunch. Saw a puddle of what I thought was water. Wrong! It was ice. So down I go and my left foot slides all the way off the sidewalk, smashes inbetween the curb and said sidewalk, and then my body falls on it. All this happened in a matter of 10 seconds. My first thought was of course WTF?! Then all I could think, feel, see was PAIN. Some guy who witnessed my downfall ran back inside to get help. Low and behold it is the hot coworker… Continue
